The world's first: Plastic products "Design for Recycling" conference

March 21, 2025 • Suzhou Zhangjiagang

The national standard formulation project of "Plastic Recyclable Design Guide Part 1: Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Material" has been included in the third batch of recommended national standards plan in 2024 ( plan number: 20241703-T-606 ). This project is an important standard development task clearly defined in the relevant action plan of the State Administration for Market Regulation.

At present, the draft of the standard has been completed and opinions are sought from experts, committee members, observers and relevant units. Please return your opinions and suggestions before March 24, 2025 .

Background of Standardization

In recent years, due to the popularity of domestic automatic sorting equipment, the automation level of front-end packaging stations has been greatly improved. Ordinary packaging stations will have at least one sorting, and some can have up to 3 sorting; the degree of refinement of sorting mainly depends on the positioning of the recycling and regeneration enterprise and the requirements for incoming materials. Most of the downstream applications of recycled PET enter the chemical fiber field, and a small amount is used in the production of packaging tapes, plates, sheets, bottles (non-food grade) and other products.

The standard aims to improve the quality of recycled materials and the recycling rate of plastic products, reduce the impact of human factors on recycling design, reduce plastic environmental leakage, and create a good external environment for plastic recycling.

This standard is consistent with the characteristics of actual recycling flows, solves practical problems of recycling and regeneration, investigates the recycling characteristics of different plastic products, takes into account the special requirements of different categories and application scenarios, and puts forward requirements for universal applicability; it provides buffer space for products that are difficult to improve, and promotes the improvement of plastic products and the development of recycling and regeneration technologies.

The main contents of the standard

This standard specifies the principles and requirements for the recyclable design of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) products, including the requirements for selecting basic resins, barrier materials and additives, colors, sizes, accessories, labels, inks, adhesives and other design elements during product design, as well as methods for determining the recyclability of PET products . It is applicable to the recyclable design of PET that has entered or is to enter the plastic recycling system, or rigid packaging containers (bottles, barrels, boxes, cups, etc.) with PET as the main component, and thermoforming products with PET sheets as the main raw materials; it is not applicable to the recyclable design of PET chemical fiber products and the quality supervision and management of plastic products.

Example: Recycling categories for PET products with different types of barrier materials and additives

EDITOR Editor's Note China Re Resources and Environment Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "China Re Resources and Environment") released its latest annual report, and two sets of data, one cold and one hot, attracted widespread attention: net profit plummeted by 66.05%, while operating cash flow soared nearly five times. The sharp contrast between the decline in profits and the surge in cash reveals a profound change in the company's operating logic. Is this a temporary dilemma or a strategic turnaround in the making? Policy changes, industry reshuffles and company response paths. 2024 is a year of "pressure and change" for China Re Resources and Environment Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "China Re Resources and Environment" ) . According to the annual report data, the company's net profit attributable to shareholders plummeted by 66.05% year-on...

Editor's Note The harmful substances produced during the plastic crushing process are extremely harmful to the environment and human health. Those engaged in such industries must go through relevant procedures in accordance with the law and take effective pollution prevention and control measures. Any unit or individual must strictly abide by environmental protection laws and regulations when engaging in production and business activities. Illegal discharge of pollutants and environmental pollution will be severely punished by law. Recently, the Xiaochang County Branch of the Xiaogan Municipal Ecological Environment Bureau jointly with the public security organs investigated and dealt with a case of illegal plastic crushing and processing. Case Details The person involved in the case, Song Moumou, set up a plastic crushing processing point privately without obtaining ...
